RE-IMAGINING CONTEMPORARY ASIA THROUGH ARTISTIC AND HUMANISTIC CROSSOVERS
What is common Asia? Or what is not? What are the landmark qualities that are no longer dominant? What is often unseen but is sensed, experienced, and felt as distinctively Asian? By posing such questions in a cross-disciplinary encounter of artists and scholars working on the region, Aesthetic Encounters aims to contribute to different understandings of Asia, overcoming generalised (self) understanding of things, people, practices and places as ‘Asian’. Proposing a possible new lens to project the complexity of contemporary Asia, the roundtable focuses on (Asian) aesthetics, both as a possible method and as a topic of investigation.
Aesthetic Encounters is a Strategic Roundtables at The 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) is the most inclusive international gathering in the field of Asian Studies. ICAS attracts participants from over 75 countries to engage in global dialogues on Asia that transcend boundaries between academic disciplines and geographic areas.
